Matthew Jordan Smith is an American celebrity, fashion & beauty photographer. His commercial clients include Olay, Pantene and Revlon. His celebrity subjects include Oprah Winfrey, Zendaya, Danial Day-Lewis, Halle Berry, Jennifer Connelly, Martha Stewart, Aretha Franklin, Samuel L. Jackson and more.
His love for creating powerful photographs stretches far beyond his commissioned work and has inspired several personal projects including three published books. Sepia Dreams, published by St. Martins Press, a collection of stricking photographs and wise words from fifty celebrities who speak candidly with Smith about the motivations and qualities they believe made and kept them successful. Lost and Found, sponsored by the Microsoft Corporation and endorsed by The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, features moving portraits of families dealing with the loss of abducted, missing and exploited children. His latest book, Future American President: 50 States,100 Families, Infinite Dreams, features portraits of children from one hundred families and every state in the union.
Matthew has interviewed for numerous magazines, websites, and podcasts including In Style, Essence, Photo District News, Rangefinder, Zoom, This Week In Photography, and Professional Photographer. He is the recipient of the Microsoft Icon of Imaging Award, the George Eastman Power of Image Award, and the WPPI Vision Award.
Matthew has taught at the prestigious School of Visual Arts, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and conducted photo workshops around the world. He is a proud Nikon Ambassador, and the creator of Photography Lighting Course. A native of New York City, Matthew resides in Tokyo, Japan shooting assignments between Asia and the United States.
